This half day tour takes you into the Namib Desert, a unique ecosystem of gravel plains and wind eroded river valleys. We study the tiny Lichens found along our way. Lichens are a joint- venture between Mushroom and Algae, dependant on fog for moisture, both needing each other to survive these harsh weather conditions. We drive on for some breath-taking views of this 500-million-year-old area. The Moonlandscape.
You feel you are on another Planet… Listen to the Silence! The road leads through Goanikontes an old watering station to our 360degree viewpoint of this vast and arid region. A lone Trac Trac Chad or Springbuck may be seen. A little further on we reach the Welwitschia Plains, a narrow band of desert stretch where this age-old plant grows. We view the 1500-year-old Welwitschia Mirabilis plants and learn how they survive. The rock formations create stunning landscapes of dolerite and granite, lava dykes and countless mining exploration sites. Our route is unique and interesting.
